July is National Ice Cream Month, and July 17 is National Ice Cream Day. Costco member Halyna Koba of Hamilton, Ontario, wrote the following poem, “State of Mind,” about Costco’s Food Court ice cream.
I licked the satin geometry hurriedly, faster and faster. Between the raindrops, the day was hot; my frozen wonder started to melt. The puddle-muddle overflowed on my mouth and hands and down my T-shirt.
As the sun came out, the treat warmed to even more luscious deliciousness. Chocolate-vanilla-sugar blended to intensify feel and flavour. But the best ingredient, part of the pure enjoyment of the moment, was the absolute chaotic mess.
