Always on high alert

Samantha M. Bailey is back with her second thriller. Watch Out for Her tells the story of a mother who must keep a watchful eye out at all times if she wants to keep her family safe.

“I’m fascinated by the dark side of human nature and how far we’ll go to protect those we love,” says Bailey of her interest in thrillers. “I also revel in having a place to put my fears and worries.

And how did being a mother inform this story? Bailey explains, “From the moment my children were born, they’ve owned my heart. And I think we mothers have an urge to watch those who take care of our kids when we’re not around, to gain control over the uncontrollable.

“When I started this book, I wanted to explore women longing to be seen, with terrifying consequences. I understood Sarah, but I didn’t share all her struggles because my kids were almost teens; I’d finally achieved some balance between motherhood and my career. Then the pandemic hit, schools were closed and I had no space or time of my own anymore.” Bailey adds, “I wrote in my kitchen/office while my children did remote learning at home. I worried constantly about their health and well-being. Writing during the last two years has been a therapeutic escape. I want my readers to experience that through the world I’ve created.”
