How to treat sunburn
To avoid sunburn, stay out of the sun. But if you end up going out and have a longer exposure than you intended, Canada.ca offers advice for treating sunburn:
● Take a cool (not cold) shower or bath, or apply cool compresses several times a day. Do not wash burned skin with harsh soap.
● Avoid creams or lotions that may hold heat inside the skin or may contain numbing medication (e.g., benzocaine or lidocaine). Aloe gel can be used.
● Drink extra fluids for the next two to three days.
● Use ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain, as directed.
● Ensure sunburned areas are fully covered to protect from further sun exposure.
