Why is Costco Wholesale selling caskets?

As a service to our members.

Will funeral homes accept the casket that we order?

Not all provinces feature laws that require funeral homes to accept caskets purchased elsewhere than at the funeral homes and/or prohibit funeral homes from charging you any additional or higher fees because you did not purchase the casket from them. Funeral homes are required to list (publish) all their prices and service fees so consumers are aware of prices before they enter into a contract with the funeral home. Some funeral homes will charge a handling fee or equipment rental fees to families who bring in their own casket. Inquire about additional fees with the funeral home before placing your order on Costco.ca. If you feel pressured or are uncomfortable; be sure to contact your local Consumer Protection Office.

In order to avoid miscommunications and/or push back from funeral homes, we strongly recommended that you notify the funeral home of your Costco.ca casket purchase without delay. It is possible that you will be required to sign a liability waiver regarding the use of a casket purchased from someone other than the funeral home itself. Costco will not have any liability or responsibility with respect to the terms and conditions set out in any such liability waiver.

Currently, caskets can only be purchased and shipped to addresses in the following locations: Vancouver BC and surrounding areas; Calgary AB and surrounding areas; Edmonton AB and surrounding areas; Red Deer AB and surrounding areas; Montreal QC and surrounding areas; Southern and Eastern Ontario.

Caskets are subject to some shipping restrictions. Please review the ship to postal code directory, or proceed to checkout to verify if delivery is available to your postal code.

Your bill to and ship to addresses must both be in the same province.

Can I ship the casket to my home?

Yes, but casket orders cannot be held for pre-planning purposes. Caskets will ship within the specified time frame. Most often, the caskets will ship to the Funeral Home directly. If you will not be using a Funeral Home, your casket may ship to your home.

How long before I receive the casket?

Standard shipping will deliver your casket within 48 hours (business days) from order receipt time.
